The Station House site is on the western side of Junction Road and backs onto the Gospel Oak to Barking overground train line. Our brief was to design a residential building which makes a positive contribution to the street.
Our proposal carefully responds to the specific qualities of the site and surroundings, whilst establishing itself with confidence and setting a local precedent for exemplary design and build quality.
External materials have been selected to complement the architectural language that has been developed through study of local and traditional facade treatments. A simple palette of brick and pigmented concrete reflect the tonal characteristics of Tufnell Park, whilst providing robust, high-quality finishes that will ensure durability over time.
The roofscape provides a contemporary addition to the proposal with large windows spanning between a colonnaded structure. Set back from below, this allows the main parapet of the building to be read as the more dominant architectural building line.
The combination of languages completes an appearance that is formal and elegant. It is respectful of its surroundings whilst contributing to and enhancing the street scene.
